The Copahue geothermal plant is a 0.67MW (670kW) binary geothermal power plant. It was the first plant in South America and started working in 1988. It is currently not operating due to a lack of maintenance. A new 30 MW plant is planned in the area.

The West Ford Flat geothermal power plant of Calpine, also called Calpine 4, is a 28 MW plant at The Geysers in California. The plant has a running capacity of 24 MW with two dry steam turbine units from Mitsubishi installed.

The Wineagle geothermal power plant has an installed capacity of 700kW (0.7 MW) and started operation in 1985. It is located in Lassen County in California, U.S.

The Yamagawa geothermal power plant has an installed capacity of 30 MW and is in operation since March of 1995. The plant is located in Yamagawa Town, Kagoshima, Japan. The plant has 11 production wells and 5 reinjection wells and is controlled remotely from Sendai Power Station about 80 km away.

The Yanaizu-Nishiyama geothermal power plant started commercial operation in May 1995. The plant has the largest power output from geothermal energy from a single unit in Japan. The plant is operated by Tohoku Electric Power and Okuaizu Geothermal Co. and is located at Fukushima, Japan.

Located at Yangbajain Township, Damxung County, the 30-year-old station currently has a total installed capacity of 25,000 kw with the first 1,000-kw generating set becoming operational in 1977. The station now mainly develops the geothermal energy beneath the shallow earth surface and thus has a great development potential with large reserves of quality geothermal energy 1,400 m beneath the earth surface. The station has also had some problems after many years of operation, such as scale formation, corrosion and low thermal efficiency. Technological innovations are thus necessary in the use of geothermal resources

The geothermal field of Los Humeros it is located in the eastern-central part of Mexico, at the eastern end of the Mexican Volcanic Belt. Its power units number 1 and 2 started to commercially operate in 1990, and currently there are eight back-pressure units of 5 MWe each with a total operating capacity of 40 MWe. A 45 MW plant, operated by KenGen. It was the first geothermal power plant in Africa. Commissioned in three phases, the three units each represent 15 MW of capacity. The first unit was commissioned in June 1981, the second and third units in November 1982 and March 1985, respectively.To date, a total of 33 wells have been drilled for the station. Thirty-one of these are currently connected to the power station while two of these are retired. One well is currently being used for hot-injection. The turbines are direct condensing 4-stage running with an inlet steam pressure of 5 bars at temperatures of 152oC and steam consumption of 9.2 t/h/MW. The plant has had an average availability factor of over 95 per cent from commissioning. The power generated is connected to the national grid via a 132KV-transmission line.

Amatitlán is a 20MW capacity binary liquid/steam site based out of Guatemala. The site has an estimated production capacity of 50 MW for 30 years.

Amedee is one of three Honey Lake sites located in California and Nevada. The site is operated by the Amedee Geothermal Venture, and has been operational since 1988.

CE Turbo is a 10 MW geothermal power plant at the Salton Sea in California, U.S. It is owned and operated by CalEnergy Generation.

The Cerro Prieto geothermal complex is with an installed capacity of 720 MW one of, if not the largest geothermal fields in the world. It is operated by the Mexican Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

The power plant at Chena Hot Springs is small scale 0.73 MW capacity plant. The turbine is a small binary PureCycle geothermal unit from Pratt & Whitney. The plant started operating in 2006 and also provides the resort with heating.

KenGen began site studies in Eburru (just north of the city of Karagita and Lake Naivasha) in 1987, where 6 wells were drilled by 1990. In 2006, additional geophysics studies were performed, and KenGen has estimated that 30MW of potential capacity exist on site. The entire construction, which cost a little under $10MM, is at 2600 meters of elevation, and with a wellhead temperature of 157 degrees Celsius.

The Hudson Ranch I, now called the John L. Featherstone Plant is a three-stage flash geothermal power generating facility with an installed capacity of 49.9 MW. It is the first new stand-alone geothermal power plant in the Salton Sea resource in California in more than 20 years. The plant started operation in May 2012. The plant is selling its power under a 30-year power purchase agreement with Salt River Project, a municipal power and irrigation district in Tempe, Arizona.

The Kizildere geothermal power plant, also called Bereket, is a 17.4 MW plant owned and operated by Zorlu Enerji. The plant started operation in 1984. Exploration was started in 1965 with an initial pilot plant was built in 1974. The plant was privatized in 2008 when Zorlu took over the operating license.

Las Tres Vírgenes is the most recent field in operation in Mexico. It is located in the middle of the Baja California peninsula, at the north of the state of Baja California Sur and inside the buffer zone of the El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve. The Ahuachapán geothermal power plant, also site of a hydro electric plant, is located close to the city and municipality of Ahuachapán in western El Salvador. Commercial exploitation in the field started in the 1970s. The plant has one single flash turbine from Fuji Electric and one double flash from Mitsubishi. It is jointly owned by La Geo and Enel Green Power The plant has 19 production wells available to supply steam to the plant and 5 re-injection wells, with a total of 50 wells. For the future it is planned to repower Unit 2 of the plant adding 5-9 MW in capacity.
