Local governor supporting development of Baringo-Silali geothermal project, Kenya

The Governor of Baringo has pledged his cooperation and support to the development of the Baringo-Silali geothermal power project by Geothermal Development Company in Kenya.

Baringo Governor has pledged cooperation and support to GDC’s geothermal project. GDC is already preparing to commence drilling activities in the vast county which boasts of a geothermal potential of 3,000MW.

Speaking during a vist to the Managing Director & CEO Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe at Kawi House, Baringo County Governor H. E Hon. Stanley Kiptis, said that it’s critical for the two entities to cooperate and support each other, expressing happiness with the ongoing work at the Lake Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project.

Phase I of the project is expected to provide 100 MW. The Government of Kenya (GoK) is funding the construction of access roads and community engagement initiatives while KfW has given GDC a concessional loan for the drilling of geothermal wells and installing a pipeline to supply water for drilling.

GDC has also developed a scope of collaboration with the Baringo County Government for GDC to provide specialized training in geothermal resource development for youth in the area.
